[[ SETTING UP MSGDOOR ]]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MsgDoor is only configurable for a hard drive system. It is too slow to be
run on a disk drive with all the built-in CRC checking and such.
Make a directory on your hard drive called MDOOR. Unzip all the files inside
MDOOR100.ZIP into this directory.
[[ CONFIGURATION ]]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To configuration MsgDoor, edit the configuration file MSGDOOR.CFG , which is
very self-explanatory and has comments at the top telling you what to put
where.
[[ Documentation to MsgDoor - Ver. 1.00ß [BETA] Page 5 ]]
[[ RUNNING MSGDOOR AS A DOOR ]]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MsgDoor has been written so that is supports many door types and is
compatible with most everything. When executed, MsgDoor will read
the selected data files of the BBS (PCBOARD.DAT, DOOR.SYS, DORINFOx.DEF
, etc.). It then will load up with all the users information obtained
from the text file.
Here is a sample batch file on how to loadup MsgDoor :
NDOOR.BAT -
~~~~~~~~~
ECHO OFF >> NOTE: The 1 paramater after the MSGDOOR.EXE file
CD \NDOOR >> is executed is the node number your system is
MSGDOOR 1 >> loading the door from. For instance, this
CD \BBS >> would be 2 if you were running on node two and
EXIT >> it would be executed by: "MSGDOOR 2".

[[ ONLINE KEYS ]]
~~~~~~~~~~~
The SysOp has access to function keys that can be applied when a user is
online or if the SysOp is online himself. Pressing ALT-H displays:
ALT-H : Help Menu System
ALT-I : System Information
ALT-F : Filter Toggle
ALT-C : Chat Mode
ALT-D : Drop to DOS
ALT-I : System Information
Shows the current information on your system.
ALT-F : Filter Toggle
Toggle whether or not you would like all the noise and colors to be
filtered so you don't get garbage on your screen locally.
ALT-C : Chat Mode
To chat with a user currently online, hit ALT-C, and begin typing.
When you are finihsed in chat, hit 'ESC' on a blank line and then
proceed with a carriage return. Time is begin consumed when you
chat, so don't forget to boost up the users time if you've entered
the chat on your own request.
ALT-D : Drop to DOS
Shells to DOS on your system so you can do whatever. Please do NOT
loadup any TSR's or anything while in DOS. To exit back to the
door, type 'EXIT' in DOS.
[[ MULTI-NODE OPERATION ]]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A quick attempt has been made to make this door multiuse friendly.
Unfortunately, we have no Beta Sites that have a multinode BBS currently
so multinode has not been tested. The best we can say is, when using
DORINFOx.DEF systems, the "x" will equal the node number to the system
that is running the door. For instance, if you are running this door on
node 2, it will create a file called DORINFO2.DEF, and to define this
in the MsgDoor loadup process, you'd simply type:
MSGDOOR 2
As far as I know, you may run off the same .EXE file, as there are no
other Data files or Overlay files it has to share, but the log files
may contain a problem with them both being open at the same time. You
may want to, for multinode operation, just make more than one .EXE file,
that way you won't have any problem. This program takes up very little
space to begin with and this will most definitely work. Also, copy it
into a different directory if you try to do this. If you are multinode,
and have figured a way for this to work other than the way stated in the
documentation, please let me know.
[[ BAUD RATES ]]
~~~~~~~~~~
MsgDoor ][ has been tested at 38.4k baud successfully. Although, to
run this door you need a Fossil driver installed. Namely drivers are
(X00 and BNU, which are currently the most popular). Fossil drivers can
be found on most bulletin board systems. If you cannot find one
anywhere in your general area, please call my BBS and download one, it
isn't that large.
[[ THE END ]]
~~~~~~~
That's basically all the most important information you should need to
get MsgDoor up and running successfully within the shortest amount
of time. I hope you enjoy the door and that your users will find the
same helpfullness as we do!
Please excuse any bugs still lurking within, but if you do find any or
think of any changes you would like to see in MsgDoor then please
notify Mike Capp at any DO DOORWORK Beta Site or at Dimensional
Overview at this number:
Dimensional Overview
(616) 327-8912
Node 1 - IBM 286 - 1.2 Gigabytes
(Please see DOBBS.DOC for more DO DOORWORK Beta Sites!)
You can reach us through Echomail in our own network, or in FidoNet's
ON_LINE_GAMES, DOORGAMES, TELEGARD, or BLUEWAVE conference.
The latest version can always be file requested with the magic name of
MSGDOOR or MDOOR from Dimensional Overview.
NOTE: This will create files with the names of:
------------------------------
LOGON.ANS - ANSI Version
LOGON.MSG - ASCII Version
These are the filenames Telegard requires. If you use another software
such as Wildcat!, you can rename them to HELLO1.BBS and HELLO1.SCR, etc
and/or anything that will fit your BBS anywhere you want. Just do a
---------------------
REN LOGON.ANS xxxxxxx
or
COPY LOGON.ANS xxxxxxxx
-----------------------
in your batch statement. Enjoy!
